In the quaint town of Jerrabomberra lies a floral haven that embodies the essence of passion, creativity, and timeless beauty. ‘Flowers with Love’ was established by Lisa in 1993 and has become a testament to a lifelong love for flowers and an unwavering dedication to the craft.
Lisa’s journey into the world of floristry began at Pialligo Plant Farm’s dried flower shop in the mid-1980s, where she delved into the craft, honing her skills, which led to a lifelong passion for dried flowers. Lisa’s journey continued with formal education in floristry at the School of Horticulture, culminating in the achievement of a Certificate IV in Floristry. In 1993, Flowers with Love was born. Weekends were spent showcasing her creations at markets, offering meticulously crafted arrangements and wreaths. Weddings became another avenue for expression, blending fresh and dried flowers into captivating bouquets and arrangements.
The 1990s marked a pivotal period for the business as she ventured into bridal magazine collaborations, designing wedding bouquets and headpieces, which graced the covers and pages of many of these publications.
Building a business from the ground up is never easy. Lisa recalls putting in relentless effort and long hours, often with her children by her side, lending their hands to various tasks. From assisting with wedding preparations to contributing to branding and marketing efforts, their involvement was invaluable. As time passed, her daughter, Anna, emerged as a talented florist in her own right and they embarked on a shared journey, managing the flower shop together.
The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic presented both challenges and opportunities for Flowers with Love. While traditional avenues of business were impacted, the shift towards online sales enabled the business to continue serving the community with flowers and hampers, providing a source of joy during uncertain times.
Today, the focus has shifted towards championing local and Australian small businesses. This has seen the shop evolve and expand its offerings to include a diverse range of products, from flowers to plants to unique giftware where every item tells a story. A meticulously curated collection of giftware that speaks to the soul, ensures there’s something special for everyone who walks through the door.
From artisanal treats to mindful games, the shelves brim with treasures waiting to be discovered. Nestled among the floral arrangements, you can expect to find a bounty of delights sourced from near and far. Take a journey through the flavours of Australia with artisan cookies and nuts from the Blue Mountains and savory spreads from the heart of rural Victoria. For those seeking a taste of local flavour, you can be sure to find crackers from Braidwood, gourmet chocolate from Murrumbateman and honey from Jerrabomberra. These small-batch treats not only delight the palate but also support the vibrant tapestry of Australian producers who infuse their products with love and care.
At Flowers with Love, every bouquet, arrangement and wreath is meticulously crafted with care and attention to detail. Behind the scenes, a huge amount of thought and planning is carefully orchestrated to bring vibrant floral visions to life.
During Winter, Lisa and her team create their wreath bases using branches harvested from grape vine prunings, twisting and manipulating them into shape and hanging them to dry. These bases become the foundation for their creativity. When it comes to creating their dried arrangements and wreaths, Lisa and her team employ a meticulous approach to their craft, with a particular emphasis on the drying process.
Unlike some other methods that rely on chemical treatments and artificial processes, Flowers with Love opts for air-drying, preserving the natural beauty of each petal and stem.
As the world of weddings evolves, so too do the trends in floral design. In recent times,
we’ve witnessed a surge in micro and intimate weddings, where love is celebrated amidst close friends and family.
In response to this shift, Flowers With Love have taken their floral creations to a new dimension, reflecting the intimacy and romance of these smaller gatherings. Gone are the days of rigid, structured bouquets.
Instead, they’re embracing a sense of spontaneity, crafting bouquets that exude an air of effortless romance. Soft pastel tones dominate, complementing the intimate nature of these celebrations.
But amidst these romantic blooms, one trend remains steadfast: the enduring popularity of native flowers. We’re fortunate to be surrounded by a bounty of native flora, from banksias to proteas. They add a touch of rustic charm to any wedding, infusing it with a sense of wild elegance.
As we look ahead to the future of floristry in weddings, one thing is certain: the beauty lies in the details and each element is carefully chosen. These floral designs serve as a testament to the enduring power of love, expressed in every petal and stem used.
Among the latest additions to the mindful gift repertoire are Dog by Dr. Lisa and Mindful and Co Kids. Dog by Dr. Lisa caters to our beloved four-legged companions, including nourishing treats to grooming products.
Meanwhile, Mindful and Co Kids invites children to embark on a journey of self-discovery and playfulness. From mindfulness tools to engaging games, this collection fosters creativity, curiosity, resilience, and emotional well-being in young minds.
At Flowers with Love, mindful gifting is not just a transaction; it’s a philosophy rooted in spreading joy and supporting the vibrant community of small businesses.
Lisa’s favourite blooms would have to include dahlias, love-in-a-mist amaranthus, daisies, hydrangeas, zinnias, cosmos and statice. Excess flowers and foliage find new life as they’re carefully dried, destined to grace their wreaths. For Lisa and her team, creativity is not just a passion—it’s a way of life and a reminder of the timeless beauty that blooms in every season.
As Flowers with Love continues to thrive, it stands as a testament to Lisa’s dedication to quality, service, hard work, and unwavering passion for floristry. More than just a business, Flowers with Love is a cornerstone of the Jerrabomberra community, where creativity blooms and connections are forged.
